Wild Baltic salmon fishing at Kengis Bruk – North Bank

For over 370 years, Kengis Bruk has stood beside the wild Torne River. Established in 1649 as Sweden’s northernmost ironworks — a place where iron was forged and coins were minted — it has always been shaped by the power of nature. Today, that same force still flows past our doorstep, carrying with it one of the river’s greatest treasures: the Baltic salmon.

On the north side of Kengis Bruk, the river is open to everyone. The North Bank is a public fishing area. Here, you can step into a tradition that spans centuries and test your skill against salmon that have traveled hundreds of kilometers from the Baltic Sea. The mighty Kengis rapids, with their 18-meter drop, create a natural resting point for the fish.

Only six licenses are sold per day, keeping the waters uncrowded and the experience intimate. Your license is valid for 24 hours from the moment you purchase it, giving you the freedom to fish through the long light of the midnight sun or the cool hush of dawn. If you want to stay longer, you can rent a cabin right here at Kengis Bruk.

This is where you find The Kengis Feeling, of leaving time behind and living only in the rhythm of the water. It’s about being fully present, surrounded by history, nature, and the quiet promise that the next cast could be the one you’ll never forget.

For residents of Pajala municipality (Pajala kommun), there are available yearly licenses. Contact Kengis Bruk for more details.
