Whitefish grilling in the Timber Smoke Hut

Whitefish grilling in the Timber Smoke Hut

Kukkola village is known for the way of grilling whitefish. The fish is first put on a stick and then grilled over an open fire. The Timber Smoke Hut, one of the oldest buildings in the Kukkola cultural village, dates back to the 1700s. During the grilling of the fish, you will learn about the methods of preparing fish and the fishing culture in Kukkola. If whitefish is not available, grilling will be done with fresh salmon. Tunnbröd – a crispy flatbread and hot juice is served with the fish. Enjoy a tasty meal around the fire.

Special equipment is not needed but the smell of smoke will attach to clothes and hair in the Timber Smoke Hut. The smoke smell goes away after washing your clothes and take a shower. We recommend you wear something that you can wash later.
